My 5 All-Time Favorite Reads

If you haven’t read these books then there will most likely be spoilers ahead.

Books have always been a huge part of my life. I love the suspense they bring and that you can take yourself to a completely different world. There are so many books and authors that have inspired me to write and it’s why English was my favorite subject in school! I loved writing essays, had a poetry phase, and wrote some short stories myself (I will count fan fiction as well because yes, I wrote fan fiction. I’m a huge nerd so it was expected).

I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite books that I’ve read throughout my life and why I’ve loved them so much!

  1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling — Hands down my favorite book of the series. I loved the story line and all the detail that went into the book. This was the story that really changed things in Harry’s life! Sure he fought Voldemort a few times and dealt with dementors but this is the book where EVERYTHING changes. I love it so much that I was actually pretty disappointed with the movie. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the movies and do love HPATGOF, but honestly they could have done so much better. It’s hard going from book to movie because it can’t all be the same but it just bugs me when huge plots are changed! Anyway, this is definitely my favorite book and love J.K. Rowling in every way.
  2. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins — My aunt got me started on this series and I finished it insanely fast because I loved it so much. I read Catching Fire specifically in just one day! Reading it as a teenager, I definitely was loving the romance heating up between Katniss and Peeta – what girl wouldn’t fall in love with Peeta?! What really grabbed my attention was all the new characters and twists to the Games. Suzanne Collins brought in so much more to this world that I was craving to know more! And as I said before, I’m a huge lover of plots and plot twists. They’re just so intriguing and enticing that it really is impossible to put the book down.
  3. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult — Jodi Picoult is one of my all time favorite authors. I really love the way she writes and what she write about it – it’s extremely real. I read this book in my early teens and would advise caution reading this as it involves multiple sensitive issues. The main plot of the book is a high school shooting. We follow a character who tries to understand the events leading up to this unfortunate terror and how it starts to change her own views of herself. Jodi Picoult has an amazing way of describing the characters and scenes that you truly feel you’re there with them yourself.
  4. Divergent by Veronica Roth — Okay so, yes, I have a favorite genre of books ~ What I loved about Divergent is that it took post-apocalyptic to a whole different level. Every member of society is divided into “factions” based on their personality types until one girl’s is questioned. It’s enticing and wonderfully written that you won’t want to put the book down! And yes, as suspected, there is a romance and it is everything. Honestly as far as young adult book romances go, this one is my favorite. I highly recommend this trilogy!

*Spoiler-ish alert – The last book I read in a day and was crying at 2am because of the end – prepare yourself*

  1. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien — A book that literally needs no introduction. I will admit I have not read the full LOTR trilogy because of the length but I have started the books. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit  are my most favorite books + movies of all time. (I have 4 LOTR tattoos and I’m currently planning for a full sleeve!) The Hobbit is a perfect starter because 1 – it’s the beginning of it all and 2 – it truly is an easier read. Tolkien wrote this book as a bed time story for his children so you’ll find that it’s very descriptive. Nerding out real quick – there were some hardcore fans that complained that Peter Jackson messed up The Hobbit movies by adding more of his creative expression in some scenes. Seriously, I think a lot of people forgot about the intentions of the book and that if you were to go back and read the scenes that were “messed up”, Tolkien gave zero detail (ie. The final battle). Anyway! I highly recommend even if you’ve seen the movies.

My 5 Must Have Beauty Products

Growing up I didn’t care too much what kind of skincare or beauty products I used. As far as I was concerned, if I was clean then I was good to go. Now in the last few years I’ve really been into skin and beauty care to keep my skin hydrated and comfortable.

My skin is very sensitive and dry, face and body. I put lotion on after my shower every time, use lotion after I wash my hands, and use Aquaphor as chapstick for my lips. It’s taken awhile to find the right products for myself and it can seem like an impossible mission if the products you’re trying aren’t working. So I hope to save you the some of the trouble and have listed my favorite beauty and skincare products! All the products I’m listing are great quality and come at great prices too, win-win!

  • Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Lotion  —  All the fragrances are so wonderful and perfect for each use. I use Comfort right before I go to sleep. It’s definitely my favorite smell and is perfect for helping me fall asleep. It’s also one of the smoother lotions so it goes on really well. I’ve also used the Stress Relief and Bergamot lotions and have had great experiences with both! Bergamot is currently in my drawer at work because it’s used to increase positivity. What I love most about these lotions is that they aren’t greasy. I love to moisturize but I do not like the lotions that leave your hands oily and greasy. It’s a huge pet peeve! These lotions go on smoothly and sink into your skin fast leaving your hands extremely soft, moisturized, and smelling amazing.

  • CeraVe Body Wash w Salicylic Acid for Rough and Bumpy Skin — I think I found out about this body wash through a Buzzfeed article and I’m SO glad I stumbled across it! The reviews seemed pretty good and I was trying to find a solution for my back acne. I didn’t use to get acne there but within the last year it’s started to become a problem with frequent breakouts, especially when I get stressed. It was probably a week after I started using this wash that I noticed instant results! My acne isn’t                                               completely gone from my back and shoulders but it has significantly gone down! I also don’t get as many painful breakouts either. I definitely recommend this body wash if you struggle with acne on your body – it’s a life saver!

  • Ella + Mila Nail Strengthener —  I stopped getting acrylic nails because I hated how brittle my fingernails were once I got acrylics taken off. I was originally using the OPI nail strengthener, which does work extremely well, but I found that I’m liking this one a lot more! I came across it while I was shopping at Target for more of the OPI brand. They were sold out and this one caught my eye. It has super cute packaging and doesn’t come with harsh chemicals. What I really love about this nail strengthener is that it lasts longer. With the OPI brand, I noticed that it would start to chip quickly and so I had to reapply frequently. With this one I only have to put on one coat for the week and I get instant results!

nail polish

  • Dove DermaSeries Body Cream : Dry Skin Relief — I just recently started using this body cream and I’m SO glad that I did! My legs get extremely dry and are really sensitive after I shave. This cream worked wonders with the irritation! It is a little greasy because it’s a cream but my skin absorbs it quickly so I don’t mind all that much. My legs also stay moisturized and are insanely smooth throughout the day.

  • Pacifica Face Masks — I had been trying to find the perfect face mask for me a couple years now. Some burned my skin, others were a hassle to clean off, and some just plain didn’t work at all. I was browsing through the face masks at Target one day and came across Pacifica. There are two face masks they have that work very well for my skin type. The first is Super Green Detox: Kale & Charcoal Detox Mask. This one is perfect for those who have clogged pores and blemish prone skin. Ever since I stopped my birth control, my face breaks out constantly and gets worse when I start to stress. When that happens I use Stress Rehab: Coconut & Caffeine Mask. This one can be used for all skin types, especially for stressed ones. The Green Detox is my go-to face mask but if I’ve had a stressful week and my face shows it, I go straight for the Stress Rehab. Bonus: These face masks are 100% vegan & cruelty free!

Once I find a product that works well for me, I almost always stay on it. I don’t like to switch up products a lot because it can cause other reactions or reverse the process I was making.

My 5 Favorite Makeup Products

The first time I got makeup I was 13 years old and received it as a Christmas present from my mom. It was your typical makeup starter kit: mascara, blush, eyeliner, and foundation.

I’ve never been really good with makeup and keep my look pretty basic, especially since getting eyelash extensions. (If you haven’t read my post about them yet, you can here!)

I’ve mentioned before that I have sensitive and dry skin so finding makeup that works best for me can be very challenging! Here are my favorite makeup products that I use!

BLOG POST_ makeup.jpg

  1. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation PrimerI didn’t start using face primer until recently(it was rare that I wore foundation) I tried two different primers and wasn’t satisfied with either. I felt like my makeup didn’t stay on and it left my face extra dry. I was super self conscious about going out and looking like I had a stone face. I wandered around Sephora for a while looking at all the different primers to see what would be best. I came across this one and thought I’d give it a try. It said that it works well with all skin types and was oil-free so I thought I’d give it a go. IT WORKS WONDERS Y’ALL. My skin seriously looks flawless and my makeup stays on the whole day. It doesn’t make my skin dry out and I have only a little bit of dry patches (I’ve only just started using this and it’s winter time. I’m excited to see how it works in the summer!)

primer

  • Cover | FX Natural Finish Foundation – Shade: P20. I’ve tried so many foundations over the years and just gave up. I couldn’t find the right shade and every foundation dried out my face. I went to Sephora one day, stuffed down my social anxiety, and asked an employee to help me find a good brand and shade. I let her know that my face is sensitive and very dry so I didn’t want something that would make it worse. She and about four other girls were so nice and helpful! They said Cover | FX would be a great brand for me and tried about 4 different shades to make sure I had the best one – they even had me test them in different lighting to make sure it was the right shade #blessed

foundation

  • Morphe 35OM Nature Glow Matte Eye shadow Palette. I got this palette as a gift from one of my friends and I fell in love with it REAL quick. I love natural shades and the colors are extremely pretty. The eye shadow goes on perfectly and it doesn’t run or smudge throughout the day. I’ve fallen asleep with my eye shadow on and it still looks amazing the next day! I like to play around with the colors but there’s a select 4 shades that I use almost every day!

  • Sephora Collection Dual Coverage Makeup Sponge. Okay, so this is probably common knowledge but make sure you have a quality makeup sponge! I’m pretty sure I purchased some makeup sponges at Forever 21 or something for, like, $5 and just went for it. The. Quality. Matters. I went with the dual coverage sponge just to try it out and I was amazed at how much smoother my foundation went on. I didn’t need to use a lot and the overall coverage looked so much better and more natural!

  • Kat Von D Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick. Hands down my favorite lipstick. I have a couple different shades and love every single one! This lipstick goes on so smoothly and doesn’t dry out your lips. It lasts pretty long and I only need to do touch ups after I eat something. I also love that it’s extremely easy to remove at the end of the day! I hate when lipstick clings to your lips and takes so much scrubbing to get off. So this is definitely an added plus for me!
